We get this question a lot...And this our spin on it..
In general, it is not a good idea to be in the same position doing ANYTHING for long periods of time. So if you are considering going from sitting all day at your desk to standing all day at your brand spanking new standing desk - we don't think it's a good idea.
BUT if you are thinking of investing in a standing desk so that you can sit some of the time and stand some of the time. Or so that you can use the standing desk to rest your leg on to do some hamstring stretches or that you are planning to get a wobble stool or swiss ball to sit on when you are not standing - we say that you have got the right idea :-)))
So that's our opinion but what do the experts say ? In the end we aren't medical practitioners - what do we know ??
For expert advice we like to link to this article from the Guardian in England.
They quite rightly say that it isn't about the standing desk. It's about the movement that the standing desk allows you to do.
Read it and then decide what works for you...
